What it is
Strictly speaking not a peptide — 5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule that blocks NNMT, an enzyme abundant in fat tissue that acts like a metabolic parking brake: high NNMT activity burns through the raw material for NAD+ and slows fat-cell metabolism. Inhibit NNMT and cellular NAD+ rises, energy expenditure climbs, and fat cells behave younger — that's the research thesis. It travels with the peptide world because the same longevity researchers study it, and because it's one of the few compounds here that works as an oral capsule.
What the research looks at
- Fat metabolism — treated obese mice lost significant fat mass without eating less — the signature finding (metabolism up, not appetite down).
- NAD+ elevation — raises the NAD+ salvage pathway inside cells, connecting it to the whole sirtuin/longevity mechanism set.
- Muscle preservation — newer animal work suggests improved muscle stem-cell function — interesting alongside weight-loss protocols that risk muscle.
- What's missing — human trials. This is animal-and-mechanism stage research.
How protocols are commonly structured
