Storage & Handling
Peptides are fragile molecules — heat, light, agitation, and time all degrade them. The storage rules that protect what you paid for.
You can buy a perfectly tested vial and destroy it on your kitchen counter. Peptides are chains that unravel — heat, light, agitation, and repeated temperature swings all break them down, and a degraded peptide doesn't announce itself. It just quietly does less. The rules are simple; here they all are.
Unmixed (lyophilized powder)
- Short term (weeks–months): a cool, dark, dry drawer is acceptable; the fridge is better.
- Long term (6+ months): the freezer, sealed against moisture. Lyophilized peptides are at their most stable frozen — years, for most compounds.
- Avoid temperature cycling. Moving a vial in and out of cold repeatedly is worse than either steady state. Decide its home once.

Mixed (reconstituted)
- Refrigerate, always: 2–8 °C. The benzyl alcohol in bacteriostatic water suppresses bacteria; nothing suppresses thermal breakdown.
- The ~4-week rule: most mixed peptides hold potency about four weeks refrigerated. Fragile ones (Semax, IGF-1 LR3) run shorter; profiles note exceptions.
- Never freeze a mixed vial. Ice crystals shear the molecule. Mixed = fridge, period.
- Keep it dark. The cardboard box it shipped in is a fine light shield.
Handling
- No shaking, ever — mixing, transport, or curiosity. Swirl.
- Wipe the septum (rubber top) with alcohol before every single draw — the preservative handles what's inside the vial, not what you push into it.
- Date everything at mixing time. "When did I mix this?" should never be a memory exercise.

Degradation is a potency curve, not a poison switch — the realistic failure mode of old peptide is "does less," not "harms you." The exception is contamination (cloudiness, floaters), which is exactly why the wipe-the-septum habit exists.
Shipping in summer
Days in a hot delivery truck are the one storage stress you can't control — and the good news: lyophilized powder handles shipping heat far better than people fear. Freeze-dried peptides tolerate days at summer temperatures with minimal loss; it's mixed solution that can't. Ship-to-door powder + your own bacteriostatic water is the resilient pattern (and why vials ship dry in the first place). If a package sat on a porch all August afternoon: unmixed = fine, get it cold and carry on.
Travel
Short trips (a weekend, room-temperature hours in a bag) are survivable for most mixed compounds — potency loss is a curve, not a cliff. For longer travel: a small insulated pouch with an ice pack, vials wrapped against direct ice contact. Flying? Powder vials + bacteriostatic water in your carry-on, mix at the destination — unmixed tolerates travel far better than mixed.
The waste-not summary
Powder: cold, dark, dry, stable home. Mixed: fridge, dark, dated, four weeks, swirl-don't-shake. That's 95% of the discipline in two sentences.
