What it is
Semax is a synthetic fragment of ACTH modified to strip the hormonal effect and keep the neurological one. Developed in Russia, where it's clinically used for stroke recovery and cognitive complaints, it's studied for attention, memory, and mental stamina — the "drive" compound where Selank is the "calm" one.
What the research looks at
- BDNF elevation — Semax reliably raises brain-derived neurotrophic factor, the growth signal behind learning and neuroplasticity.
- Attention & memory — Russian trials in healthy and impaired subjects report improved attention span and working memory.
- Stroke & neuroprotection — its actual clinical indication in Russia.
- What's missing — Western replication, again; the literature is overwhelmingly Russian.
How protocols are commonly structured
200–600 mcg per day, nasal or subcutaneous, taken earlier in the day (evening dosing can disturb sleep). Situational 2–4 week runs — exam periods, heavy work sprints — are the common pattern rather than year-round use. Frequently cycled with or against Selank depending on whether the bottleneck is focus or stress.
Reconstitution & storage
Lyophilized powder; bacteriostatic water for injectable, saline for nasal preparations (calculator for injectable math). Refrigerate after mixing; Semax is regarded as relatively fragile — keep it cold and don't shake it.
