What it is
BPC-157 is a synthetic chain of 15 amino acids derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. It has been studied since the early 1990s, almost entirely in animal models, where it shows an unusually broad repair signature: tendon-to-bone healing, ligament repair, muscle tears, and gut-lining protection.
What the research looks at
- Tendon & ligament repair — the headline use. Rodent studies consistently show faster tendon-fibroblast growth and better healing of transected tendons.
- Gut lining — it was discovered in the context of stomach protection; research covers ulcers, inflammatory bowel models, and NSAID-induced gut damage.
- Muscle and joint recovery — accelerated healing of crush-type muscle injuries in animal models.
- What's missing — large human trials. Nearly all evidence is preclinical, which is exactly why this compound remains a research chemical.
How protocols are commonly structured
Research-community protocols typically run 250–500 mcg per day, split into one or two subcutaneous injections, for 4–8 weeks. Many report injecting as close to the injury site as is practical, though systemic effect is assumed either way. BPC-157 is considered one of the more forgiving compounds to work with because the reported dose range is wide and side-effect reports are sparse.
